Terms of Service
These terms are an agreement between you and Carter Medved, an individual doing business as CalSherpa ("CalSherpa," "we," "us") for your use of the CalSherpa website, browser extension, and service. By using CalSherpa, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use CalSherpa.
1. What CalSherpa does
CalSherpa is a planning tool. A browser extension reads your own Canvas coursework while you're signed in, CalSherpa finds deadlines and tasks in it, and CalSherpa schedules work blocks on your Google Calendar around the events already there. CalSherpa is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instructure (the maker of Canvas), Google, Microsoft, or any college or university.
2. Who can use it
CalSherpa is intended for college students. You must be at least 13 years old to use it. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian agrees to these terms on your behalf. You sign in with a Google account, and you're responsible for everything that happens under your account. Please keep your Google account secure.
3. You remain responsible for your deadlines
CalSherpa helps you plan. It does not guarantee your schedule is complete or correct. It can miss a task, read a date wrong, estimate too little time, or fall behind if Canvas, Google, or the extension isn't working. Instructors can change due dates at any time. Your course site, syllabus, and instructors are always the official source for deadlines. You're responsible for knowing and meeting them. CalSherpa isn't responsible for missed deadlines, late penalties, or grades.
4. Subscription, free trial, and payment
- Monthly subscription. CalSherpa is a monthly subscription at the price shown at checkout. The trial terms, your renewal date, and the price are shown at checkout before you subscribe.
- Free trial. Your subscription starts with a 7-day free trial, which begins when you subscribe. A payment method is required to start the trial. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, it converts automatically to a paid monthly subscription at the price shown at checkout, and your payment method is charged on the conversion date. Before the trial ends, we email you a reminder with the conversion date, the price, and how to cancel. If you cancel during the trial, you won't be charged.
- Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically each month at the then-current price until you cancel. After you subscribe, we email you a confirmation with instructions for cancelling.
- Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe. CalSherpa never sees or stores your card number.
- Taxes. Prices exclude applicable taxes, which are collected where required.
5. Cancellation and refunds
You can stop using CalSherpa at any time by uninstalling the extension and revoking CalSherpa's Google access (see the Privacy Policy).
Cancelling. You can cancel your subscription online at any time before your next renewal, or by emailing support@calsherpa.com. Cancelling stops the next renewal; your access continues through the end of the month you've paid for. Cancelling during the free trial means you won't be charged.
Refunds. You can get a full refund of any payment by asking within 7 days of that payment, including the first charge after your trial and every renewal. Email support@calsherpa.com to ask. We don't give refunds after those 7 days.
Deleting your account. Email privacy@calsherpa.com; we delete your account data within 30 days of your request.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use CalSherpa with a Canvas or Google account that isn't yours;
- use CalSherpa in a way that breaks your school's rules, including its acceptable-use and academic-integrity policies, or the terms of Canvas or Google;
- try to access other users' data, or probe, scan, or test CalSherpa's security without our written permission;
- interfere with or overload CalSherpa, or use automated tools to access it except through the official extension;
- copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell, or build a competing product from CalSherpa, except where the law specifically allows it;
- use CalSherpa for anything illegal.
7. Your content
Your Canvas content, calendar, and any email you connect stay yours. You give us permission to process them only as needed to run CalSherpa for you, as described in the Privacy Policy. We don't claim ownership of your content, and we don't use it to train AI models.
8. Other services
CalSherpa depends on services we don't control, including Canvas, Google, and (once available) Microsoft. Their availability, features, and terms can change, and a change on their side can limit or stop parts of CalSherpa. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms.
9. Termination
You can stop using CalSherpa at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if your use creates a security or legal risk, or if we stop offering CalSherpa. Where reasonable, we'll let you know first. If we stop offering CalSherpa entirely, we'll give notice. If CalSherpa shuts down, or we end your account without cause, we'll give you a prorated refund for any unused time you've prepaid. When your account ends, your data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
10. No warranty
CalSherpa is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don't promise that CalSherpa will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any schedule, task list, deadline, or time estimate it produces will be accurate or complete.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, CalSherpa is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. This includes missed deadlines, academic consequences, and lost data. Our total liability for any claim about CalSherpa is limited to the amount you paid us for CalSherpa in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute about these terms or CalSherpa will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Westchester County, New York, and you and we agree to the jurisdiction of those courts.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change significantly affects you, we'll let you know by email or in CalSherpa before it takes effect. If you keep using CalSherpa after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
